Lately a few patients have asked a similar question:
“How often should I come in for tune-up?”
To answer that question we must first understand that creating health (or its slow decline) is a process…
It seems simple, but people have a strange tendency to “thingy-fy” life, to see life as “things.” But our life, our whole world, is actually a complex interaction of processes. The procession of the planets. The weather, the seasons. The sands of Mona Vale Beach constantly reshaped by currents and tides.
You’re a complex self organising system and right now, inside your body, there are numerous processes determining the level of health you will enjoy. Often overlooked, one of the most important processes is the accumulation of stress.
Stress is natural, but today’s hectic world certainly isn’t. Your nervous system didn’t evolve to process a lot of the mental, emotional and physical stress in the modern world. That stress gets stuck in your body, becoming what we call “Physically Retained Stress”.
Like hair growing or plaque build-up on teeth, this kind of stress accumulates over time. It’s just less obvious in your mirror. At first, it might show up as tension, brain fog, or low energy. But over time, the strain of Physically Retained Stress can lead to pain, anxiety, fatigue, sleep issues, and many common health concerns.

How often should you get your nervous system tuned-up?
Pain is not a great indicator for this. It’s a late stage alarm. By the time pain shows up, your system has likely been compensating for quite a while.
Most people see their dentist twice a year. They visit their hairdresser every six or so weeks. The nervous system is the master control system of your entire body so, unless you’re a Kardashian, it’s at least (at least!) as important as your haircut.
